Gone Fishin! - Jul 21

Last weekend we had a little "family getaway" with a planned trip up to Arnold, CA. Arnold is a place I have heard mentioned before but as far as I know have never been. Heather had initially tried to plan a camping trip with her cousin Megan and as some point it became a better plan to actually split a rental cabin. I was much more on board with the cabin over the tent idea so the plans were set and away we went. Honestly, I didn't have much of a grasp on what it was we were going up there to do except to have a little away from home time and something about there being a lot of big trees. LOL. Friday morning we drove up early and met up with Heather's cousin's family at the "Calaveras Big Tree" park thing. All Chloe could talk about was how she this tree or that tree was "probably a giant sequoia!". Every tree to her was either a giant sequoia, or was probably not as big as one. We spent several hours walking the park checking out GIGANTIC trees. Pretty cool if you haven't seen it before.

Back at the cabin(after dinner) the kids were all super excited to make "Smores" which we did safely using the BBQ. The cabin was literally backed to a huge open forest. Any false move with fire and you would have yourself a MAJOR situation. Then the kids played/wound themselves up with the big upstairs loft where they were also going to sleep. Chloe ended up not sleeping very well the first night just because it was pretty hot up there even with the A/C on. The 2nd day we spent the majority of the day by a local lake trying to let the kids fish. Chloe has been talking about going fishing now for...months. I can't really remember where her obsession with it came from but she seriously has been looking forward to this for a long time. Heather in advance of our trip purchased a few fishing poles for the kids to use so we had everything we needed(for the most part). I tried to remind Chloe early on something I heard once: "It's called FISHING, it's not called CATCHING". LOL. That set in pretty early on as the kids wanted to just cast out and reel it back in shortly after. Surprisingly, though, they did stick with it for several hours. At some point we just resorted to hanging the bait into the water just by the shore where you could actually SEE fish swimming around but those fish were not having anything to do with it. Either we had the wrong bait, or these little fish have figured out when this bait is in the water to ignore it. =) After hours and hours, we hear Chloe squeal "I GOT ONE!!" and sure enough she did!. I grabbed a few pictures and the hook was removed and the fish was thrown back. We still don't know what kind of fish it was, but we do know that the only fish caught that day in our camp was caught by Chloe. That's all I wanted to be honest was just for her to catch SOMETHING. ANYTHING. Mission, accomplished.

A short getaway weekend and a few pictures taken along the way. Have a great weekend, folks~~
