Happy 6 Week Birthday, Chloe! - Feb 19

Well, we made it this far and we can hardly believe it. Chloe is changing so much it's really unbelievable. She continues to be more alert, she's gaining weight and generally looking different every time we look at her. =) We are very fortunate to be in the position where we are both home and able spend so much time with her in these important early weeks.

In other news, our other little girl, Abbey(our dog), ended up having her surgery to have her gall bladder removed. That in itself was a very traumatic experience and she came home and was recovering well. After a few days home she wasn't eating much and we had to pretty much jam her medication down her throat to get her to take it(and there was a lot of different stuff she was on). On Monday, I came back from the grocery store and the dog came trotting over to me like she normally would, shook her head and fell to the ground. At first I laughed but then she got up and continued to fall. It was like her legs were just giving out on her over and over and it was immediately apparent something was really wrong. We loaded up and went straight to the vet which is luckily only 5 minutes away. We ended up seeing a different vet than we normally would and she started checking Abbey over. To make a long story short, they determined Abbey had a really bad ear infection but the vet told us Abbey had something called "vestibular disease". Basically, vertigo but for dogs. I didn't know what that was so I had to ask but basically her world was spinning and her brain could not tell her legs what to do, so she would fall. Apparently, unrelated to the surgery but not if you ask me.

In doing my research about "vestibular disease" the first web page I found talked about a few other things that can virtually mimic the symptoms of vestibular disease one of which was an overdose of a specific type of antibiotic. Guess what? Abbey was on this antibiotic because of her surgery. The vet does acknowledge the side effects but insists she is on a safe dosage and gives us some MORE pills to put the dog on to help her be less *dizzy*. Eventually, dogs figure out how to walk and function with their world spinning and that's the best they can promise us.

So, we discontinued that antibiotic at my request and guess what? Over the last 3 days we almost have our dog back and her symptoms have almost completely disappeared. Maybe coincidence, maybe not, but draw your own conclusions. It was very scary but thankfully things are very much looking up for her. Our poor little girl.

So, here are a few more clicks from this past week. Chloe is doing great and quickly growing into (and out of) a lot of her clothes. We had some beautiful weather here this week so we actually got out and used our new stroller a few times to do some laps around the block. That was really fun for us =)
